A less expensive way to go: Get the most bang for your buck by getting a Cars tablecloth (~$4), a few Cars cake plates (about $3 for 8 and even cheaper at Target) and for your Cars cake decoration get a toy vehicle that your child can keep. And don't forget a pinata... ranges from $13 to $20.
Party favors: You can give the guests a Cars goodie bag with coloring pages, and maybe a HotWheels/Mattel car model (little pricey). Also, there are some books as inexpensive as .99, which seems like a really wholesome favor. (don't you hate the junk!). Also be sure to check out your local Dollar Store: Some have Cars pencils, rulers, sharpeners and "stuff".
For our party, I found T-shirts on sale at our local Sears and Target for ~ $8. The going rate for T-shirts online is $10-$14. (check out Clothing). I also found some durable plastic cups with Cars pictures for ~ .99 at a local party supply store.

Lightning McQueen Birthday Cake - You can get a Lightning McQueen cake pan from Amazon (see upper right corner) and make it yourself.
- Have your bakery do a decorated cake for you. They can even make a picture of McQueen on the cake.
- Get a plain cake from your bakery and decorate it with sugar McQueen cake decorating items you can get from a party store (Michael's craft store also has them and they have been spotted at Target). With these, and a Lightning McQueen candle (easy to find), and some diecast cars your cake will look great.
