Chick Hicks

Chick Hicks is the main antagonist of the film, voiced by actor Michael Keaton. He is described as a generic and boxy 1980s American stock car, though an early design was that of an old model Chevrolet stock car that was dumped because GM disliked it. He bears a stunning resemblance though to a 1980's Buick Regal.

He also bears more than a passing resemblance to the late Dale Earnhardt (including his famous "mustache" and aggressive driving style). His primary sponsor is Hostile Takeover Bank, represented by "htB", but his sides and hood are covered with logos for numerous other companies. Along with the sponsors, he has his number 86 on his side that refers to "86-ing" someone, as in throwing them out. The number 86 also refers to 1986, the year Pixar debuted its very first film, Luxo Jr.. Chick's grille is positioned to resemble a mustache, and is actually referred to as a mustache twice in the Cars video game. His personality is designed as a fast driving maniac who is always out to win, even if it means driving illegally. He constantly shakes and vibrates, but still drives beyond the abilities of this model.

In the film, Chick Hicks is the perennial runner-up in the Piston Cup. He has spent most of his career in the shadow of The King and also has to contend with up-and-coming young star Lightning McQueen. In the first race, The King and Lightning finish tied with Chick for first in both the race and the Piston Cup, leading to a one-race playoff to determine the champion. Chick, like Lightning, hopes to win so he can take over The King's spot with sponsor Dinoco and during Lightning's sojourn in Radiator Springs, Chick is able to rally support from many of Lightning's supporters. During the scene before the "big race" Chick is seen on the scren with his crew, fans, and the Miata twins, Mia and Tia. Later at the final race, Chick knocks The King out of the race, determined to at least not finish behind him again. Lightning brakes just short of the finish line, allowing Chick to win the race and the championship. Despite winning the race, Chick is not treated as a hero, but is booed and jeered at by the media and the fans. Chick flees, saying, "This is the start of the Chick era!" He is also denied the Dinoco sponsorship, which is offered to Lightning instead, although he declines for loyalty reasons.
